Bobby Stanton: SHEPHERD
Solo guitar with orchestra, played by world-class guitarist, Bobby
Stanton and orchestrated by Peter Link. Ten of your favorite hymns
beautifully performed in new and refreshing styles. Additionally,
vocalist Julia Wade joins on one of the songs and Link/Stanton also
perform the beautiful Ton-y-Botel Suite for solo guitar and orchestra.
The style of the CD is a mixture of folk, classical and world music
providing a gentle meditational and prayerful atmosphere for the
listener.
Since the days before David was king, shepherds have sat, tending
their flocks, and played on their flutes and stringed instruments. We
can still hear them calling to one another across continents, their
music soaring into the night, conjuring up images of Galilee, Lebanon,
Persia, Mesopotamia, Africa -- with the enchanting sound of lyre,
harp, psaltry and lute wafting through our imaginations.
Today the tradition continues: the modern day equivalent to these
ancient instruments being the six string acoustic guitar. The sound
has changed ever so slightly, but the haunting ability to stir the
soul remains. And so we offer you hymns of praise, songs of
inspiration and music for meditation and prayer, played by a master
craftsman and world-class musician, Bobby Stanton.
The hymns range from an ancient Irish melody to classical composers to
early 20th century composers.

About Bobby Stanton
|
 |
You may have heard him featured on Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home
Companion" or playing in one of several Broadway musicals. You may
have also caught his magical fingers strumming with the likes of Mark
O'Connor, James Taylor, Richie Havens, Noel Redding, Bo Diddley, Susan
Tedeschi, Maureen Mcgovern, Donny Osmond, The Platters, Fabian,
Charlie Daniels, only to name a few. In his spare time (what spare
time could he possible have?) he shares his talent and technique as a
teacher of guitar at Berklee College of Music in Boston where he was
awarded the first ever "Ovation" Award. |

The
first word that comes to my mind, when listening to Julia &
Peter's music, is simply, beautiful. Then others quickly follow
-- emotive, expressive, and celebrating the divine in a way
that provides a deeply transforming journey to the listener.

My
favorite song is "Who Rolled The Stone."

The Mountain was a delight to listen to… There’s
a relaxed, conversational style in many of the songs which I
find very effective. And [Julia’s] “classical”
chops are used sparingly but also very effectively. Peter’s
sensitive arrangements perfectly complement [Julia’s]
more relaxed and mature presentation…and [her] interpretations
enhance his compositions. Congratulations.

The
CD is gorgeous…and it's just what I need to be listening
to right now--something uplifting, inspiring and true…Julia’s
wonderful voice takes me right to the top of the mountain--to
a fresh, clean space. Peter’s orchestrations sound amazing
to me. I'll be listening to this CD many times over.
Karen Deamant

It all "works": the wonderful lyrics, the rich, inspired
singing, the supportive singers and certainly the spiritual,
healing "spine" that unites all the elements so well.
Congratulations. It took me a few times listening before I realized
I'd never heard the lyrics... all original efforts. Wow. Excellent.
I really enjoyed "Who Rolled the Stone" and was delighted
that you included a Chinese violin in "Upon the Mountain."
I first heard the violin years ago when I visited the Bejing
Symphony during a rehearsal and love the mysterious quality
of it… Thanks for giving the world such love and joy!

Aside
from the fact that her voice is lovely and the music is so good,
Julia enunciates so that you can understand the words. That
is something I can't seem to do when I listen to much of the
current music. It seems as though most singers do not know how
to sing so that you can understand them. On the other hand,
perhaps they don't have much to say, so it really doesn't matter.
I particularly liked "A Hole in My Life" and"
Who Rolled the Stone."

During the year before she passed on, Mindy Jostyn spent much of her time
working on a new solo CD called "Coming Home" which was relased
October of 2005. Like "in His eyes", "Coming Home" is a
collection of non-denominational "folk hymns".
Produced and orchestrated by Peter Link, it's flavored
with musical influences from around the world and features
Jostyn on lead vocals, all of her instruments, and a host
of guest artists.
