Comics Crossover Trivia: 5 Actors Who Have Played Both Marvel And DC Comics Characters In Movies
Who would have thought superhero movies can be a hit nowadays? Well, it’s not like they haven’t been around in the previous decades, but films like “The Punisher” (1989), “Captain America” (1990), and “The Fantastic Four” (1994) were better off left in box-office limbo up until they were remade in the later years.
Truly, films based on comic books have come a long way from being box-office bombs. And when talking about these films, the 2 most popular companies which these interesting super-beings and storylines are usually based on are Marvel and DC Comics, which also resulted in different actors playing various characters in movies based on these respected rival universes.
So stick around as we’ll get to know some of these Hollywood stars in this topic about comic crossover trivia: 5 actors who have played both Marvel and DC comics characters in movies in today’s post.
Now do bear in mind that there are lots of names to mention when talking about this subject, but we’ll only include A-List actors who were known for playing prominent Marvel and DC characters in this list.
Let’s begin…

Ryan Reynolds – Today, his name is almost synonymous with the hilarious ‘Merc-With-a-Mouth’ Marvel character known as Deadpool. In fact, most fans agree this comic book character was made for him, just like Tony Stark (Iron Man) was made for Robert Downey Jr., which resulted in the box-office success of “Deadpool” and “Deadpool 2” and the development of an unnamed third Deadpool film.
But long before playing the character who loves “breaking the 4th wall”, Reynolds also played Hannibal King in “Blade Trinity”, which is another Marvel movie, and the titular character in the DC film “Green Lantern”. Unfortunately, most movie critics panned the 2011 movie because of poor CGI effects, which also led to Reynolds making fun of his DC superhero alter-ego in one of his Deadpool movies.
Ben Affleck – Ben is mostly associated nowadays for his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in DC’s “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice”, “Justice League”, and the upcoming 2022 Flash movie. But long before he donned the mantle of the ‘Caped Crusader’, he was once played Matthew Murdock/Daredevil in the 2003 Marvel movie “Daredevil”.
According to some comic book fans, Affleck was once considered the accurate personification of the Marvel superhero known as the ‘Devil from Hell’s Kitchen’, but he gave the role up because of the mixed reviews from movie critics.
Hale Berry – Hale Berry made her name as one of the main characters in Marvel’s X-Men franchise by playing the Ororo Monroe/Storm, a mutant who can control the weather.
But apart from that, she also played the iconic DC character Selina Kyle/Catwoman in the 2004 movie “Catwoman”. However, her portrayal in that film is something that should be forgotten as she did not do justice playing that role that she even earned the Worst Actress in the 25th Golden Raspberry Awards that year.
Willem Dafoe – Before Dafoe portrayed Aquaman’s mentor, Nuidis Vulko in the DC movie “Aquaman”, he was already popular for playing Norman Osborn/Green Goblin opposite to Toby Maguire’s character in the 2002 Marvel movie “Spider-Man”. He was so good at bringing this character to life onscreen that he was considered as one of the best onscreen super-villains in the early 2000s.
Michael Keaton – While most of the younger generation of comic book fans identify Keaton as Adrian Toomes/Vulture, the arch-enemy of Tom Holland’s rendition of Spider-Man in Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, he also donned the ‘Dark Knight’ costume in the DC movies “Batman” and “Batman Returns”. Keaton’s portrayal of the ‘Caped Crusader’ cemented his legacy as a pop culture hero in the late 80s and early 90s.
